June Intentions

Summer is HERE! This photo is giving me hay fever just by looking at it, but the sun is shining, everything is green again, and most importantly, all of the college students in Boston are out for the summer (haha)! Before I think about my June intentions, I want to reflect on last month’s goals! Here goes…

May Goals Recap:

Become more comfortable with finances. This is very much a work in progress. Just to get the conversation going in my mind is important. I managed to work on a couple things, though I think I need to make an outline of some tangible goals, and actually sit down with family and friends (who are in the know) to discuss next steps.

Build that marathon base. I could have been better this past month. It’s hard to visualize a goal so far away, but I wanted to start early! I will be more focused this month.

Prepare for summer trips. Tommy and I had a great time in Walt Disney World for Memorial Day Weekend. We hit all four parks, enjoyed the Flower & Garden Festival, and had some really delicious meals. We really lucked out on the weather too!

Relax, unwind, enjoy summer. It’s so easy to get wrapped up in work life and not feeling like there is an end in sight. At least for me. Rather than living for the weekend, I want to make the most of my weekdays too! I want to look back on the times when I had summers off and think about what made me happy: going outside, spending time by the ocean or a lake, going out for an evening stroll or ice cream cone, or have rose on a patio somewhere (okay, maybe I didn’t exactly do that last one as a kid, but I will now!!)

Read more books. Remember the “Read One Million Minutes” campaign we used to do as kids in the summertime? I certainly won’t get to that many minutes, but I do want to embrace summer reading. I have a few books in the queue: The Handmaid’s Tale, Ethan Frome, The Crown Pt. I, to name a few. I’m not really into fictional, dramatic beach-y reads like my mom. I’ve always preferred nonfiction, historical fiction, or something that was then turned into a show that I need to watch immediately afterwards! This will be a goal of mine throughout the summer!

Make this first month of summer training count. Summer running is brutal. You have to be smart about sunscreen, fueling properly, staying hydrated, and avoid getting sick. At least I know I’m sensitive to all of those things! We just had our first heat/humidity wave and running through it was tough. I wanted to quit many times. The weather will test me throughout the training season, but will hopefully prepare me for whatever race conditions we will have in Chicago on October 7th.

What are your goals for June? Let’s have a great summer!

Whoo, signing up to your blog via Wordpress worked! All the best on your goals. I'm also trying to read more books and spend less time on my phone.
