WDW Marathon Training Update

Hi everyone! Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving celebration and are enjoying the rest of your weekend. Now that Thanksgiving is behind us, we can officially get excited for the holiday season! It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, which means we are that much closer to the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend! In fact, we’re SIX weeks away! WOW.

As I’ve mentioned before, this is crucial training time. The miles we put in now will be in the bank for race day. These scary numbers we were looking at earlier in the season seem less scary now! That being said, while I’m not getting in an 18 miler this weekend, I was sure to log the miles last week, knowing I would be going away this weekend. Here’s what my training week looked like this week:

Monday: Treadmill Class+Strength. To anyone like me who used to “just run” I encourage you to find a strength training program you’ll actually follow/enjoy. I finally realize how important they are to overall health and staying strong and avoiding injury!

Tuesday: 5 miles. 5 miles before work with a Garmin that was acting up (annoying) but still got it done!

Wednesday: Rest. Plus it was cold and rainy and I had to prepare for Thanksgiving!

Thursday: 6.5 miles tempo. My annual tradition is a solo turkey trot around my old neighborhood enjoying the quiet and solitude before the mass consumption of stuffing. I’m also in charge of the monkey bread so between those two foods, I have zero self control (and aren’t going to feel bad about it at all!) I ran fast so the sooner I finished, the sooner I could commence to eatin’!

Stuffing is like my family

Friday: Rest. Oops. I was supposed to run Friday before work in anticipation of my travel, but it just didn’t happen. I could not get out of bed so I chose not to feel guilty about it and moved on with my life.

Saturday: 3 miles tempo. Boy 3 miles sure feels better than 18! But I did work hard and did it. Even while away!

Sunday: 3 miles.  A cooldown to end the week! Now I need to get back into my routine for next week.

As you can see, this is hardly what was scheduled for me this week. But holidays and travel happen! I spoke with my running coach knowing this would happen ahead of time and she said not to worry. I worked hard last week, I will work hard to make up for it next week, and I’ll be right back on track. For anyone doing the same this week, we’re in this together!

Keep Calm and Carry On! Thanks for reading and see you next Sunday for an accountability recap. 🙂
